I've been writing stories and journaling since I was a child, though making up stories in my head was by far my favorite mode. I wrote a blog for a short time called Harmony in the Hills in which I shared some of my favorite fun memories of growing up a "mountain girl". Yet, as I approached midlife, I realized I wanted to write a novel. I finally began in 2008 and by 2016 I saw that it was really four books. Ever since I've affectionately called this my "four-book degree" and over the years I have definitely learned plenty. With the Celtic Magic series complete, I'm currently working on a new novel, a few children's books, and have once again turned my sights towards blogging about my hometown, Southern Humboldt County, and working on my memoir.
Listen to me talk for the first time publicly about my outlaw hippy childhood that sprang from my parents' back-to-the-land homesteading lifestyle and how this led me to study fairy tales and write my own stories.
I was a finalist in the 2023 San Diego International Memoir Writers Association showcase & Shaking the Tree anthology! Video coming soon! This was the first time my writing was performed in the theater. I couldn't have asked for a better group of people to work with. The whole process was fun and the event was amazing!
Honorable Mention twice for Flash Fiction in Summer and Fall, 2019 and once for NonFiction in Fall, 2019.

Born in the half-basement of a house in Berkeley, I was quickly whisked up to Humboldt County before my first birthday. I was blessed to grow up behind the Redwood Curtain of the Pacific NorthWest, in the high mountains of Southern Humboldt County with views that swept the expanse of the world in a single glance. I spent long afternoons watching my mother garden or listening to my father play the highland bagpipes. I also spent many hours in the theater where my mother was a dancer and my father was an actor. This undoubtedly led to my overactive imagination and love for nature. My storytelling kept me entertained on the two-hour bus ride to town for school (and yes, the two-hours back again.) I've lived in San Diego ever since graduating from college, for the sake of my husband's love of warm water surfing, but I visit my roots as often as I can. Thus, I am the Out-of-Town Local Tourist and plan on enticing you to visit SoHum and expect you will find immense joy in its unique beauty.
Growing up in the folds of my parents theater groups, I felt the power of Circles as we joined in OM before every show. A teacher since age 19, I learned about sharing stories through Waldorf kindergartens. After training in leading circles, I discovered how fun it could be to bring story circles to adults and older children. I study the meanings in fairy tales in order to write my novels and know they hold powerful medicine. Through my circles, I help bring a deeper connection to family, community and nature through storytelling and guided activities. I write my own Circles for whichever theme/topic I wish to bring to attention. I also use Circles created by the three organizations I'm trained in.

My day job consists of teaching reading. I'm a CA credentialed elementary school teacher with training in Waldorf Education & Reading Intervention instruction. My BA is in Child Development from Humboldt State University (now CalPoly Humboldt) and my credential is from San Diego State University. I have taken extra trainings online in teaching reading in Waldorf schools, as well as in main stream public schools. I've almost completed my Waldorf teacher certification, though I may have come as far as I will with it since I prefer small groups over large classrooms.
I currently work with children of all ages, grades, & levels, many who speak English as their second language. I use a playful, creative approach so the children have fun since reading is supposed to be enjoyed. Children often tell me how happy they are to come to my reading groups. If you're interested in my tutoring, please contact me with your specific concerns & any questions you need answered. We can figure out a time and place that works for both of us. My prices are on a sliding scale, meant to help parents meet the needs of their children while also meeting my needs. I look forward to hearing from you.
